Amazon 3D and AR View
An extension of Amazon’s shopping app, AR view, allows users to virtually place products from the market in their environment. Augmented Reality (AR), is a technology that has been around for a number of years but has only recently gained traction in relation to online commerce. As a seller on Amazon, you should take a close look at Amazon Augmented Reality View. Here is an overview.
What is Amazon AR View?
Customers can use the AR View function of smartphones or tablets to view products from Amazon’s extensive range in their own home, office or any other location as if they were actually there. The device’s camera captures the real environment of the user and then superimposes virtual models of the selected products in real time. This allows customers, before purchasing a product, to get a realistic and interactive idea of how it would look and fit in their own environment. Therefore, Amazon AR View offers a completely new shopping experience that supports customers in making decisions and reduces the risk of making a bad purchase.
The newest feature of Amazon AR View is the virtual shoe fitting. This allows sneakers to be tried on virtually — however, the function is only available for iOS and the USA for the time being.
How can I benefit from this as a retailer?
Amazon AR View offers merchants many advantages. First of all, it allows them to display their products in an innovative and engaging way. Merchants can personalize the shopping experience and give customers a better understanding of the products. This can increase customer satisfaction and increase the conversion rate. Second, Amazon AR View reduces the return rate for merchants. Customers can better assess whether a product meets their needs if they have the opportunity to test it in their own environment before purchasing. This lowers the likelihood of insufficient or unsatisfactory purchases and results in fewer returns.
Additionally, Amazon AR View allows merchants to differentiate themselves from the competition and showcase their products in innovative ways, which can lead to increased brand awareness and sales.
Activate Amazon AR View
It’s fairly easy for merchants to enable Amazon AR View for their own products. To use Amazon AR View, you must complete the following steps:
- Merchants must first ensure that they have a professional seller account on Amazon. Only professional sellers can use Amazon AR View.
- Merchants must then ensure that their goods are suitable for AR View. Not all products are currently compatible with AR View. Typically, items such as furniture, appliances, electronics, toys, and others are particularly well-suited to AR.
- After selecting the products, merchants must browse the product list in their seller account and select the product for which they want to enable AR View.
- Within the product information is a section titled “Photos and Videos”. Retailers now have the option to upload a 3D model view of their product using AR View. Ensuring that the 3D model meets Amazon’s technical requirements is critical. We are happy to support you 3D Modelling there.
- The retailer needs to save the information and update the product after uploading the 3D model. Amazon then validates the 3D model.
- AR View is automatically enabled for the product once the 3D model is approved. Then customers can view the product in their environment using the AR View feature.
It’s important to keep in mind that Amazon AR View isn’t currently available for all categories and marketplaces. Merchants should therefore check the current policies and availability in order to use the feature.
Create 3D models for Amazon
To create 3D models for AR View, it is advisable to work with an agency. This usually saves time and money. For example, Mazing uses AI to create a suitable model for Amazon from 3–5 photos. If you decide to create 3D models yourself, here is an overview:
- Acquisition of 3D data: There are different methods to acquire 3D data. A 3D scanner can scan a physical object. There is also software and apps that allow 3D scanning to be performed using a camera or smartphone. Mazing only works with 3–5 photos here, and a scan is saved.
- After acquisition, the 3D data must be converted into a suitable 3D model. To do this, you can use 3D modeling programs such as Blender, 3ds Max, and Autodesk Maya. You can edit the 3D model, add texture, adjust materials and prepare it for AR application using the software.
- Optimizing the model: Optimizing the 3D model is crucial to load it efficiently and quickly. This includes minimizing the number of polygons, removing invisible components and improving texture resolution. Amazon has specific technical requirements for its 3D models, so reviewing them and making sure the model meets the requirements is crucial.
- Texturing and Materials: To create surface details such as color, texture, and shine, you can use texturing techniques to add realism to the 3D model. You can add materials and change the lighting in the model to create a pleasing look.
- Exporting the model: After completing and optimizing the 3D model, you need to export it to the appropriate file format. Formats like glTF, .obj and .fbx are supported by Amazon.

Summary
Amazon AR View is a great way to differentiate yourself from the competition, increase conversions, and reduce returns. The problem usually lies in the creation of the 3D models. It doesn’t have to be complicated though! Simply upload 3–5 photos to Mazing and get perfect 3D models for Amazon.
